About Rachel
After the birth of her second and third child, Aria and Austin, (and the start of a global pandemic), Rachel decided to go from a one-woman show to a small, boutique K-12 tutoring and enrichment practice. All of GSW tutors are either former coworkers, close friends, or direct referrals. Each academic coach is an experienced classroom teacher and content specialist with a wealth of knowledge, charisma, patience, and passion.
Our Story
Nurturing the Unique World of Learning
Our founder, Rachel Gold Cederbaum, (formally Ms. Gold) started teaching high school at the ripe old age of 21. Her beloved high school English teacher, Karl Decker (infamously known as D- Decker) showed her the way. He served as a mentor in her life for decades and in one letter (she saved them all, and there are hundreds) he wrote, “there are few professions--outside of the people professions--in which you learn so much about yourself so quickly. In your classroom, every pair of eyes is a three-dimensional mirror and if you look into them you will see when you have succeeded, when you have failed, when you have enlightened, when you have obscured, when you have shown how, when you missed the cue. A rather unique world..one that informs you very quickly about who you are…”

Rachel loved this ”unique world,” the vibrancy, energy, and spontaneity of the classroom. She especially loved witnessing the growth and progress of her students. After teaching 9th and 11th grade honors English, IB English, and AP Language and Composition for a combined twelve years (with a short stint as a Middle Years Programme (MYP) Coordinator: spoiler alert, she realized pretty early on that kids are where it is at, adults and administration are not as much fun), Rachel began tutoring “on the side”. After the birth of her first son Levi she evolved from a classroom teacher to a full time academic coach, turned entrepreneur and business owner.
