James Knuuttila
Math/Executive Functioning Coach
James Knuuttila’s career has been profoundly shaped by his passion for connecting people to high level mathematics. Over the course of the last 15 years, he has had the privilege of working as a mathematics teacher from grade 5 to AP Calculus, while also tutoring college level mathematics. James practices teaching the whole student by providing quality math instruction as well as emphasizing social-emotional skills to develop and strengthen how students face adversity both in and outside the classroom. His commitment extends beyond the classroom, as he actively collaborates with colleagues, administrators, and parents to develop personalized programs that cater to the distinct learning needs of each student.
James’s journey in the field of mathematics has been characterized by continual learning and growth, exemplified by his certifications in International Baccalaureate (IB) and Middle Years Program (MYP). James regularly pushes himself to grow as an educator through learning and developing mnemonics that range from movement and stories to songs. Since 2009, James has been showing students that learning and mastering all ranges of mathematics can be both easy and fun.
When not in the classroom, James can be found in the kitchen trying out a new recipe, on the road running/cycling, or playing with his dog Kinsey.
