Harriet Katz

Harriet has 35 years of teaching experience with the Montgomery County Public School System. In 1985, Harriet graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University with BA degree in Elementary Education. Additionally, Harriet graduated with an advanced certificate as a Reading Specialist. Harriet continued to advance her education by receiving her Master's degree from John Hopkins University. In 2023, Harriet was trained and certified to teach the Orton Gillingham approach to reading. She finds the hands-on, multi-sensory, and sequential strategies to be paramount in helping students, of all levels, learn to read. Harriet has taught at Cold Spring Elementary School for 35 years. During her tenure with MCPS, she has taught 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades. Furthermore, she has tutored students in a wide array of grade levels.
In her spare time, Harriet enjoys reading, running, baking, hiking and spending time with her family.
