Kathy McSkeane
Englilsh/Executive Functioning Coach
Kathy McSkeane recently retired after more than 30 years as an English/Language Arts teacher, working with students in grades 6–12. She spent the last 20 years of her classroom career in Montgomery County Public Schools, primarily at the middle school level.
Kathy holds a B.A. in Language and Literature and an M.A.T. in Secondary English Education, along with certifications in mindfulness, social-emotional learning (SEL), and yoga.
Kathy’s approach to tutoring begins with building a genuine relationship with each student. She focuses on strengths while addressing challenges, maintaining high expectations while meeting students where they are and helping them move forward with confidence. She has extensive experience working with reluctant readers and writers, as well as students who struggle with organization, motivation, and feeling overwhelmed by school.
Her understanding of the challenges students face comes not only from decades in education, but also from her personal experience raising two children with very different learning profiles. Her areas of special interest include ADHD, specific learning disabilities, executive functioning, anxiety, lack of confidence, and general school overwhelm.
Kathy’s goal is bigger than improving a grade. She wants students to better understand themselves as learners, develop strategies that work for them, build confidence, and ultimately discover that learning can be both manageable and rewarding.
