Michaela Floria

Michaela Florio received her MFA in Creative Nonfiction Writing from Sarah Lawrence College, where she worked with Pulitzer Prize winning poet Vijay Seshadri.
She taught English and Creative Writing at the college level, where she witnessed firsthand the dire need for a stronger educational foundation for students. She now works with students aged 7-18 to help them build the tools needed to succeed in college and beyond. Michaela has led creative aging workshops for Alzheimer's and dementia patients, played Division I college soccer, and has coached players ranging from age three through college. She tutors students in English, executive functioning support, college essays, competition and submission projects, and more. Writers under her tutelage have won numerous competitions and awards, including YoungArts, the NYTimes Short Memoir competition, the NYTimes Learning Network Contest, and acceptance into various summer residencies. Students have also won the most prestigious regional and national recognition at the Scholastic Arts & Writing Awards including Gold Key Senior Portfolio, American Voices, New York Life Award, and more. As an educator, she has been recognized each year by Scholastic since 2016 for “Teaching Excellence” as well as for national Gold Key winners.
