Ryan Tarinelli

Writing Tutor

Ryan Tarinelli is a tutor and writer with more than 8 years of experience as a full-time journalist. He is based in Washington, D.C., where he works as a legal affairs reporter covering Congress, the Federal Judiciary and the Supreme Court.

Ryan works to build student confidence with a focus on teaching lifelong reading and writing skills. He teaches students to think critically about their topics, and emphasizes the importance of organizing ideas and writing with conviction. He also collaborates with students to identify their individual goals, while also using accountability plans to help them progress.

As a journalist, Ryan often spends his time chasing the news of the day on Capitol Hill, interviewing lawmakers and parsing through legislation.

He was a 2022 Paul Miller Fellow with the National Press Foundation, and was part of the John Jay/Harry Frank Guggenheim Justice Reporting Fellowship at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice.

He has received numerous honors for his reporting, including the Citizen Merit Award from the Arkansas Trial Lawyers Association for his work investigating lengthy 911 call wait times in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Ryan’s journalism career has taken him across the country, reporting for news outlets in seven states. He’s covered business news in rural Iowa, raging wildfires in Washington State and health care litigation in New York. He began his career reporting for a statewide newspaper in Arkansas and later worked for the Associated Press in Texas, Nevada and New York.

He is a graduate of the University of Idaho, where he received a BS in Journalism and Applied Music Performance.

In his spare time, Ryan enjoys playing tennis, exploring museums and learning new recipes.
