About the Workshop

Rachel loves the social engagement of the classroom and the creative energy it produces. She founded Gold Signature Writers and her college essay workshops to create a miniature classroom made up of friends.

The 1-week Summer college essay workshop consists of three 2-hour sessions (for a combined total of 6 hours). To provide continuity, the three sessions typically occur during a one week period, with students brainstorming, drafting, editing, and finalizing their essays between sessions. The writing coach will also provide detailed, personal feedback on all drafts. You can form your own group of 4-5 friends and complete your common app essay before the stress of the application process begins.

The workshop enables you to find your own “signature” style and feel confident in the stories you tell.  The intimate classroom environment is the best of both worlds; it provides you with one-on-one attention throughout the creative process and allows for discussion and interaction with those who know you best.

In the Workshop, you will:

  • Brainstorm and discuss ideas for Common App prompts

  • Outline ideas

  • Review several common app models

  • Develop your syntax, style, and structure

  • Draft essays with support from your writing coach and friends

  • Edit and revise three drafts

  • Receive personal feedback from your coach between sessions

  • Produce a final, submission-ready Common Application and Coalition essay
